The Word of the day is Live

Foundational Scripture – 2 John 1:6 (CEB)

“This is love: that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment just as you heard it from the beginning: you must live in love.”

Introductory Thought

We use the word live casually.

“Live your truth.”

“Live your best life.”

“Just live a little.”

But Scripture gives the word weight. According to 2 John 1:6, to live is not about self-expression — it is about love in motion. Not emotion. Not inspiration. Motion. To live in love is to let reverence and respect shape your steps. “Living in love is faith with its sleeves rolled up.” Live means to order one’s daily conduct around a governing conviction.

Biblically speaking, to live means to walk — a steady, intentional pattern of behavior that reflects allegiance to God’s command to love.

Inspirational Reflection

John simplifies the Christian life in one sentence: Walk according to His commandments. Then he narrows it further: Live in love. Love is not a mood.

It is a discipline.

It is choosing patience when you are irritated.

It is correcting without being humiliating.

It is holding standards without losing compassion.

In today’s culture, reaction is rewarded. Outrage trends. Sharp words get attention. But Jesus calls us to something steadier. He calls us to live — not in impulse, but in intentional love. To live in love means your private responses match your public convictions. It means your leadership carries dignity. It means when you fall short, you repent quickly and return to love without defensiveness. Love is not soft. It is strong enough to restrain pride, redirect anger, and restore relationships. When we live in love, our faith becomes visible. Our walk preaches before our words ever do. To live, according to 2 John 1:6, is to align daily behavior with God’s enduring command to love. It is consistent obedience expressed through action. Living in love transforms routine interactions into sacred reflections of Jesus’s character.

Reflection Questions

1. What governs my reactions — emotion or love?

2. Where do I need to replace harshness with disciplined compassion?

3. How would my leadership change if love became my default posture?

Prayer

Father,

Teach me to live in love—not occasionally, but consistently.

Align my steps with Your command.

Guard my heart from pride and my words from harm.

When pressure rises, anchor me in obedience.

Let my life reflect Your love in every interaction.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. Amen and Amen.

Takeaway
