The Word of the Day is Honor

Foundational Scripture – First Peter 4:16 (CEB)

“But if you suffer as a Christian, don’t be ashamed. Instead, honor God with this name.”

“Honor is not what you demand from others; it is what you consistently give with your life.”

Honor means to regard with great respect, esteem, and value; to live in a way that reflects dignity, integrity, and reverence toward God and others.

In a culture that often chases applause, honor calls us to something deeper—faithfulness.

Peter wrote to believers who were misunderstood, marginalized, and sometimes mistreated. Instead of telling them to defend their reputation, he told them to honor God. That means when the pressure rises, when your integrity is tested, when your faith costs you something—you respond not with shame, but with steady devotion. Honor is not situational. It doesn’t fluctuate with public opinion. It is revealed in how we carry the name of Christ when it’s inconvenient. In uniform or in civilian clothes. In the pulpit or in private. In victory and in suffering.

To honor God is to live in such a way that even hardship becomes a testimony. It is choosing dignity over defensiveness. Faith over fear. Purpose over pride. Honor is not loud. It is lived. Honor means living in a way that reflects reverence for God, especially in the face of difficulty. According to 1 Peter 4:16, suffering for Christ is not a source of shame but an opportunity to glorify Him. True honor is demonstrated through integrity, perseverance, and faithful witness.

Reflection Questions

1. When my faith costs me something, do I respond with embarrassment or with bold honor toward God?

2. In what areas of my life is God inviting me to carry His name with greater integrity?

3. How can my current challenges become opportunities to glorify God rather than protect my image?

Prayer

Lord God,

Thank You for calling me by Your name. Forgive me for the times I have shrunken back in fear or prioritized my reputation over Your glory. Teach me to honor You in every season—especially in difficulty. Strengthen my integrity. Steady my witness. May my life reflect dignity, courage, and unwavering devotion to You. If I suffer, let it not be in shame, but in holy confidence that I belong to Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Amen and Amen.

Takeaway

Honor God most when it costs you something—because that is when your witness shines the brightest. The word of the day is “Honor”.
