The Word of the Day is Throw
Throw Your Worries to God
Foundational Scripture (CEB)
“Throw all your anxiety onto him, because he cares about you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
Introductory Thought
Life often feels like a constant balancing act. Responsibilities pile up, worries about the future creep in, and the pressures of everyday life can weigh heavily on our hearts. Many people try to manage these anxieties quietly, believing strength means carrying everything alone. Yet Scripture offers a different invitation—one rooted not in endurance, but in surrender. Corrie ten Boom once wrote, “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.” Her words echo the truth found in 1 Peter 5:7. God never intended for us to live under the crushing weight of worry. Instead, God invites us to throw our anxieties onto Him. The word throw is important. It does not suggest gently placing or cautiously handing something over. Throwing requires decisive action. It means releasing what we hold and letting it leave our hands completely. Spiritually, this means refusing to cling to the fears, uncertainties, and pressures that try to dominate our thoughts.
Inspirational Reflection
To throw our anxieties onto God is an act of trust. It acknowledges that while we may not control every circumstance, we know the One who holds all things. When we release our burdens to God, we are not ignoring reality—we are entrusting them to a God who loves us deeply.
Peter’s encouragement also reminds us of the reason we can let go: God cares for us. This is not a distant or impersonal concern. It is a personal, attentive care from a loving Father who sees our struggles and walks with us through them. Every worry we carry matters to God. When we lay our anxieties at God's feet, we make room for peace to enter our lives. The energy once spent on worry becomes strength for faith. The weight once carried in our hearts is replaced by the assurance that we are not alone. Faith is not pretending life is easy. Faith is choosing to trust that God’s hands are stronger than the burdens we carry.
Reflection Questions
1. What worries or anxieties have you been holding onto instead of releasing to God?
2. What does it look like for you personally to “throw” your burdens onto God rather than carry them yourself?
3. How might your daily life change if you consistently trusted God with your worries?
Prayer
Gracious God,
You know every worry that weighs on my heart. Today, I choose to release my anxieties into Your hands. Teach me to trust You with what I cannot control. Replace my fear with peace and my worry with confidence in Your care. Thank You for loving me and for carrying the burdens I was never meant to bear. Help me walk in faith, trusting that Your strength is greater than anything I face. Amen. Amen and Amen.
