The Word of the Day is Glory
Glory in the Ordinary
Scripture (CEB):
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, you should do it all for God’s glory.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31
Introductory Thought
Glory often feels like a word reserved for heaven—brilliant light, angelic praise, moments too holy for everyday life. Yet the apostle Paul gently brings glory down to earth, placing it squarely in the middle of our daily routines. According to Scripture, God’s glory is not limited to sanctuaries or special occasions. It is revealed in kitchens, workplaces, conversations, and quiet choices made when no one else is watching. “Glory is not found in drawing attention to ourselves, but in directing every moment toward God.”
What Is Glory? Glory is the visible expression of God’s worth. It is not something we manufacture or achieve; it is something we reflect. When our lives mirror God’s character—love, humility, faithfulness, justice—God's glory becomes evident through us. Glory happens when God’s presence is made known in human form through surrendered, reverent living.
Inspirational Reflection
The Apostle Paul’s instruction in 1 Corinthians 10:31 is striking in its simplicity. He does not begin with preaching, miracles, or sacrifice. He starts with eating and drinking—bare, ordinary acts of survival. In doing so, he removes any excuse we might have for separating faith from daily life. If even these small acts can glorify God, then every moment becomes an opportunity for worship.
Living for God’s glory is less about dramatic gestures and more about intentional living. It is choosing integrity when shortcuts are easier. It is showing kindness when impatience feels justified. It is working diligently, resting gratefully, and loving generously—all because our lives belong to God. When our posture is humility, and our purpose is faithfulness, God’s glory quietly shines through us.
Reflection Questions
1. Where have I limited God’s glory to only “spiritual” activities instead of daily life?
2. How can I intentionally honor God in the ordinary moments of today?
3. What attitudes or distractions might be dimming God’s glory in my words or actions?
Prayer
Gracious God,
You are worthy of glory in every part of my life.
Teach me to honor You not only with my words, but with my choices, attitudes, and daily actions. Transform my ordinary moments into offerings of worship, and let my life quietly point others to You.
May all that I do reflect Your goodness and grace.
Amen. Amen and Amen.
Takeaway
