The Word of the Day is Give

Luke 6:37–38 (MSG) — “Give away your life; you'll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”

Giving with Open Hands and an Open Heart

To give is to mirror the very heart of God. Jesus teaches that giving isn’t simply the act of sharing resources—it’s a way of living that shapes who we become. When we offer mercy, we receive mercy in return. When we extend compassion, compassion deepens within us. When we choose generosity over self-protection, we step into God’s rhythm of abundance. 

Giving reminds us that life is not found in clinging but in releasing. It softens the places made rigid by fear, widens our capacity for love, and teaches us to trust that God’s supply is greater than our scarcity. In the mystery of God’s grace, what we give returns to us with “bonus and blessing,” not because we earned it, but because God delights in pouring out more than we can hold.

Living generously isn’t about having extra—it’s about choosing to offer what we have: a listening ear, a kind word, a prayer, forgiveness, or time. Each small offering becomes a seed of grace planted into someone else’s life and into our own. “Generosity is the overflow of a heart confident in God’s abundance.” To give means to offer, release, or share something—time, care, compassion, resources, or oneself—for the good of another without expecting anything in return.

Prayer

Gracious God, thank You for being endlessly generous with me. Shape my heart to give with joy, compassion, and trust. Open my hands, where they have been closed, and soften my spirit, where it has been guarded. Teach me to live generously, knowing that Your blessings overflow beyond anything I could imagine. Make my life a reflection of Your generous love. Amen.
