The Word of the Day is Children
Intro Thought
In Mark 10, families bring their children to Jesus, hoping He will lay His hands on them and bless them. The disciples try to protect Jesus’ time, but He stops them and insists the children come close. Jesus not only embraces them—He teaches everyone watching that the kingdom of God belongs to those who receive it like a child. In this moment, He makes it clear: a childlike heart is not something to grow out of but something to grow back into.
Angela Schwindt offers us this shift in thinking: “While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.”
Children are young ones who embody trust, openness, dependence, and the pure ability to receive and respond to love. Children were never an inconvenience to Jesus—they were a living illustration. Their eagerness, honesty, and unguarded trust revealed exactly what it looks like to come to God. As we grow older, our hearts can become crowded with fear, control, doubt, and complexity. We begin to measure, calculate, and hesitate. But Jesus invites us to return to a posturing of simple faith—one that is willing to be led, held, and blessed. Being like a child in God’s presence is not childish; it is a profoundly spiritual experience. It means approaching God without pretense, allowing God to love us freely, and trusting God completely. When we come to God with open hands, we make room for grace to fill our lives again. Jesus reminds us that the kingdom of God is received—not earned—through a trusting, open, childlike heart.
Reflection Questions
1. Where is God inviting you to lay down fear and pick up simple, childlike trust?
2. How can you approach Jesus today with more openness and honesty?
3. What blessings might you be missing because you hesitate instead of coming freely as a child?
Prayer
Loving Father, thank You for welcoming me as Your child. Teach me to trust You with openness and simplicity. Remove the fears and doubts that complicate my faith. Help me to rest in Your love, receive Your grace, and walk with You in humility and dependence. Hold my heart close today and remind me that I belong to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Amen and Amen.
Takeaway
A childlike heart makes room for God’s greatest blessings—come to God openly and without hesitation. The word of the day is ”Children”.
