The Word of the Week is Love
Foundational Scripture
“We love because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19 (NIV)
Introduction: Love Begins with God
Love is not something we invented—it is something we received.
Scripture tells us plainly:
We love because He first loved us.
Which means before you ever:
Spoke a kind word
Extended grace
Showed compassion
God had already loved you first.
Love is not just something God does—
Love is who God is.
Movement 1: Love is God’s Nature
Love is the foundational characteristic of God.
Everything God does flows from love:
His creation reflects love
His mercy reveals love
His discipline is shaped by love
His faithfulness proves love
So if we are created in His image, that means at our core—
We have the capacity to love.
But here is the tension:
Love may be within humanity,
but it is not always demonstrated in humanity’s actions.
Just because we can love doesn’t mean we always choose to love.
Movement 2: Love is Demonstrated, Not Declared
We demonstrate the love of God in us by loving one another.
Love is not proven by what we say—
It is proven by what we do.
Because real love:
Shows up
Sacrifices
Serves
Stays
Love does what is necessary—not just what is required.
Required love says: “I did my part.”
Necessary love says: “I gave my heart.”
Movement 3: Love Requires Surrender
The confession of love is the submission of self.
To love deeply, you must let go of:
Pride
Control
Self-centeredness
Because love is not about elevating yourself—
It is about offering yourself.
You cannot love fully and remain fully self-focused at the same time.
Love calls you to surrender.
Movement 4: Love is Selfless and Unconditional
Love is reckless.
Not reckless in a careless way—
but reckless in its willingness to give without guarantee.
Love:
Expects nothing in return
Gives without condition
Extends grace without calculation
And the greatest example of this kind of love is God Himself.
Movement 5: The Ultimate Expression of Love
“The God Son was surrendered…”
God did not just talk about love—
He demonstrated it through sacrifice.
Through Christ:
Love stepped into humanity
Love endured suffering
Love overcame sin
Jesus was given to remove the barriers that kept us from relationships.
Not so we would have to perform—
But so we could freely connect.
Love made a relationship possible.
Movement 6: If You Know God, You Know Love
“If you know God, you know love.”
This is evidence of spiritual maturity.
Not how much Scripture you can quote…
Not how visible your faith appears…
But how deeply you love others.
Because your love for God is revealed in your love for people.
You cannot separate love for God from love for others.
Movement 7: You Are Invited to Love
Love is not forced—it is invited.
God invites us into a life where:
We reflect His character
We embody His compassion
We extend His grace
And every day, we are allowed to choose:
Will I love out of convenience…
Or will I love out of calling?
Conclusion: Love is the Evidence
Love is God’s foundational characteristic.
It is:
The evidence of His presence
The expression of His nature
The expectation for His people
So here is the truth:
You don’t learn love by talking about it.
You learn love by living it.
Statement to Remember
Love is God's foundational characteristic, enabling humanity to love. It is demonstrated through selfless actions and relationships, reflecting God's faithfulness and inviting us to embrace love as an essential aspect of our lives.
Reflection Questions
1. How am I currently demonstrating love in my daily interactions with others?
2. Where might God be calling me to move beyond “required” love into “necessary” love?
3. What areas of my life require surrender so that I can love more fully?
Takeaway
Love is not just something you feel—it is something you choose, something you live, and something that reflects God in you. The word of the week is “Love.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for loving me first. Teach me to love as You love—freely, fully, and without condition. Help me move beyond words and demonstrate love through my actions. Give me the courage to surrender myself so that Your love can flow through me to others. Shape my heart to reflect Your character, and let my life be a testimony of Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Amen and Amen.
