The Word of the Day is Treasure
Where the Heart Truly Lives
Foundational Scripture — Matthew 6:21 (CEB)
“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21
Introductory Thought
In a world filled with endless demands and distractions, Jesus offers a straightforward truth: our hearts always follow what we value most. This word invites us to slow down and notice where our love, attention, and trust are being invested.
Inspirational Reflection
“Your heart follows what you value.”
Treasure means that which we deeply value and intentionally protect; what receives our time, energy, devotion, and affection.
Jesus does not condemn wealth or achievement, nor does He romanticize poverty. Instead, He lovingly redirects our focus. Treasure is not merely what we possess—it is what possesses us. It may be our work, our reputation, our security, our fears, or even our desire to help others. Whatever we treasure quietly shapes our priorities and reveals the proper orientation of our hearts. When our treasure is fragile or temporary, our hearts become anxious and guarded. But when our treasure is grounded in God—love, mercy, justice, and presence, our hearts find stability and freedom. Jesus’ words are an invitation, not a rebuke: an invitation to invest ourselves in what cannot be taken away and to discover a more profound peace that endures.
Reflection Questions
1. What do my time, energy, and emotions reveal about what I treasure most right now?
2. Are there good things in my life that may have quietly become ultimate things?
3. How might my heart be transformed if I intentionally treasured God’s presence above all else?
Prayer
Faithful God,
Search my heart with gentleness and truth. Reveal where my treasure has drifted toward what fades instead of what endures. Teach me to treasure You above all things, to value love over fear, generosity over grasping, and faith over control. Align my heart with Your heart, so my life reflects Your kingdom and my soul rests in Your peace. Amen. Amen and Amen.
