The Word of the Day is Treasure

Scripture:

“Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moths and rust and burglars. It’s obvious. The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.”

— Matthew 6:19–21 (MSG)

Reflection Thought

Today’s word is part of our ongoing reflection series exploring daily words of faith and encouragement.

“True treasure is not what fills your pockets but what fills your soul.”

The word treasure means something of great value—a person, place, or experience held dear. Spiritually, it points to what holds our heart’s devotion and reveals what we truly prize before God.

In a culture that measures worth by possessions, status, and achievement, Jesus calls us to pursue a different kind of wealth—one that cannot decay, diminish, or be taken. Earthly treasures may promise satisfaction, but they often leave our hearts empty when they become our focus. Heavenly treasure, however, is eternal. It grows through acts of love, moments of faith, and lives surrendered to God.

Every time we show kindness, extend forgiveness, or offer our hearts in prayer, we invest in a kingdom that never fades. Our hearts naturally follow what we value most—so when we treasure God above all else, we find freedom, peace, and purpose that no rust or thief can touch.

Reflection Questions

1. What “earthly treasures” tend to distract your heart from focusing on eternal things?

2. How can you invest your time, talents, and energy in what has lasting spiritual value?

3. Where does your heart naturally go when you think about what matters most—and how can you bring that focus closer to God?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me that true treasure is found in You alone. Help me release what fades and hold fast to what lasts forever. Teach me to value love over luxury, faith over fame, and service over status. May my heart be anchored in heaven even as I live faithfully on earth.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. Amen and Amen.

Takeaway

When God is your greatest treasure, your heart will always be rich—no matter what this world takes away. The word of the day is “Treasure”.
