The Word of the Day is Shepherd
Foundational Scripture — John 10:11–13 (MSG)
“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd puts the sheep before himself and sacrifices himself if necessary. A hired hand is not a real shepherd… The sheep don’t matter to him.”
The shepherd doesn’t lead from comfort but from commitment.
A shepherd guides, protects, and cares for those entrusted to them—not out of obligation, but out of devotion. In John 10, Jesus reminds us that authentic leadership is not measured by authority, but by sacrificial presence. A shepherd steps toward danger, confusion, and need—not away from it.
When life feels uncertain, or your responsibilities seem overwhelming, remember: you are not walking alone. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, leads with unwavering compassion and protects with unfailing strength. His watchful care restores courage, dignity, and direction.
And as He shepherds you, He equips you to shepherd others with patience, wisdom, and love. Shepherding is about committed care, courageous leadership, and faithful guidance. Jesus models perfect shepherding—He puts others first and never abandons those He leads. With His example and presence, we learn to lead with integrity, compassion, and strength.
Reflection Questions
1. Where do I sense Jesus guiding me right now, and what might it look like to follow more fully?
2. Who has God placed under my care, and how can I shepherd them with greater compassion?
3. In what areas of my life am I tempted to act like a “hired hand” instead of a committed shepherd?
Prayer
Gracious God, my Good Shepherd, thank You for leading me with love that never fails and courage that never fades. Teach me to trust Your voice, rest in Your protection, and follow Your guidance. Shape my heart to reflect Your care so that I may shepherd others with compassion, integrity, and strength. Help me lead like You—steadfast, sacrificial, and full of grace. Amen. Amen and Amen.
