The Word of the Day is Ready

Scripture: Luke 12:40 (CEB)

“You also must be ready, because the Human One will come at a time you don’t expect.”

Introductory Thought

Readiness is often misunderstood. We tend to associate being ready with having answers, plans, or advance notice. Yet Jesus teaches something far more profound. “Readiness is not about predicting God’s timing—it is about cultivating a faithful way of living. It is a posture of the heart, not a spot on the calendar.”

Inspirational Reflection

In Luke 12, Jesus speaks to disciples who want certainty. Instead of giving them dates or details, He gives them direction. “You also must be ready.” Why? Because God often moves in moments we did not schedule. The unexpected arrival of God is not meant to cause fear, but to reveal where our trust truly rests.

A ready life is shaped in ordinary faithfulness. It is formed when we choose integrity over convenience, prayer over panic, and obedience over comfort. Readiness grows quietly, in daily decisions that align our hearts with God’s purposes. When we live this way, surprise does not unsettle us—it sharpens us. Being ready also means staying awake to what God is already doing. We can become so focused on what might come later that we miss the sacred opportunities right in front of us. Readiness invites us to live alert, compassionate, and responsive—ready to love, ready to forgive, ready to serve, ready to follow. Jesus reminds us that readiness is not about control. It is about surrender. When our lives are anchored in faith, we don’t have to fear the unexpected. We can meet it with trust, knowing that God’s timing is always purposeful, even when it is surprising.

How can you practice spiritual readiness in your daily routines?

What might God be inviting you to notice or respond to today?

Prayer

Faithful God,

Teach me to live ready—not anxious about tomorrow, but faithful today. Keep my heart awake to Your presence and my life aligned with Your will. Help me trust Your timing and respond with obedience when You call. Amen. Amen and Amen.
