The Word of the Day is Ignore
Foundational Scripture (Hebrews 12:1–2, CEB — Complete Text)
“So then let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up, and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.”
Introductory Thought
Ignoring is a spiritual discipline that helps us stay focused on God’s purpose. By refusing to give attention to shame, distraction, and unhelpful voices, we align ourselves with Christ and gain the clarity needed to endure and move forward in faith.
“Focus is not about saying yes to what matters—it’s about ignoring what doesn’t.”
Ignore means to pay no attention to something or someone deliberately; to refuse to be distracted, influenced, or consumed by what is not aligned with purpose or truth.
Inspirational Reflection
We live in a time where everything competes for our attention—news, opinions, expectations, and endless noise. Yet, the call of Hebrews is clear: run your race and fix your eyes on Jesus. That kind of focus requires intentional ignoring. Jesus endured the cross by ignoring the shame. He did not deny the pain, but He refused to let shame define Him. Instead, He looked beyond the moment to the joy ahead. That is the discipline of focus—choosing what deserves your attention and what does not.
Many of us are carrying unnecessary weight because we refuse to ignore what is trying to distract us. We give attention to criticism that doesn’t build us, fear that doesn’t guide us, and voices that don’t align with God’s truth. Ignoring is not avoidance—it is alignment.
When you ignore what is not from God, you make space to hear what is.
For those who lead, serve, and care for others, this is essential. You cannot sustain your calling if you are pulled in every direction. Spiritual endurance requires clarity. It requires releasing what slows you down and refusing to engage what drains you. Like Jesus, we are invited to look beyond the immediate and fix our eyes on the eternal. Your strength is not just in what you carry—but in what you choose to leave behind.
Reflection Questions
1. What distractions or voices am I giving too much attention to right now?
2. What would it look like to ignore what is not aligned with God’s truth for my life?
3. How can I intentionally fix my focus on Jesus in this season?
Prayer
Lord,
Help me to fix my eyes on You. Teach me the discipline of ignoring what distracts me from Your purpose. Give me wisdom to recognize what is not from You and the strength to release it. Quiet the noise around me so I can hear Your voice clearly. Help me run my race with endurance, free from unnecessary weight and focused on the joy You have set before me. Amen. Amen and Amen.
