The Word of the Day is Create

Scripture — Genesis 1:1 (CEB)

“When God began to create the heavens and the earth—”

Introductory Thought

The Bible begins with a powerful truth: God is a Creator. Before there was light, land, or life, there was God bringing order out of chaos and purpose out of emptiness. Creation is not simply the beginning of the story of the world—it reveals the heart of God. The One who created the universe also invites humanity, made in God's image, to participate in building, shaping, and restoring the world around us. Erwin McManus wrote, "Creativity is allowing God’s imagination to flow through your life." Create means to bring something into existence; to produce, shape, or form something new with purpose and intention.

Inspirational Thought

Genesis opens with God actively creating. The first action Scripture records of God is creating. This tells us something profound about God's nature—God brings life, order, beauty, and purpose wherever God moves. While only God creates from nothing, humanity reflects God’s image by participating in creative work. We create when we build relationships, solve problems, encourage others, nurture families, develop ideas, and bring hope into difficult places.

Creation is not limited to artists, musicians, or inventors. Every person has the capacity to create something meaningful in the lives of others. A kind word can create encouragement. A wise decision can create stability. A compassionate presence can create healing in someone’s heart. In a world where destruction, negativity, and division often receive attention, followers of God are called to be people who create what is good. We build bridges instead of walls. We speak life instead of criticism. We bring light where there is darkness. Every act of love and goodness reflects the creative nature of God working through us. Genesis reveals that God is the ultimate Creator who brings order, life, and beauty into existence. Because we are made in God’s image, we are invited to reflect that creativity by building, encouraging, restoring, and bringing goodness into the world around us.

Reflection Questions

1. What is something positive you can create in the life of someone around you today?

2. How can your gifts and talents be used to build something meaningful in your community?

3. In what areas of your life might God be inviting you to bring creativity, hope, or restoration?

Prayer

Creator God,

Thank You for the beauty of Your creation and for the privilege of reflecting Your image. Help me to use the gifts You have given me to build what is good, bring hope where there is discouragement, and create peace in the places I influence. Guide my words and actions, so they reflect Your heart for life, restoration, and purpose. May everything I create bring honor to You and encouragement to others.

Amen. Amen and Amen.
