The Word of the Day is Brave
Foundational Scripture
Joshua 1:9 (CEB)
"I’ve commanded you to be brave and strong, haven’t I? Don’t be alarmed or terrified, because the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Introductory Thought
When God spoke to Joshua, He was commissioning a leader stepping into overwhelming responsibility. Moses was gone. The future was uncertain. The people were watching. Yet God did not give Joshua a guarantee of ease—He gave him a command and a promise: Be brave… because I am with you.
“Bravery is not the absence of fear; it is the presence of faith.” Brave means to face danger, difficulty, or uncertainty with courage and steady resolve. Biblically, bravery is not rooted in personality or emotion—it is rooted in the promise of God’s presence. It is not about feeling fearless; it is about choosing faith over fear.
Inspirational Reflection
In our cultural moment—filled with rapid change, leadership pressure, family strain, and internal battles—bravery often looks ordinary. It looks like showing up when you feel inadequate. It looks like having the hard conversation. It looks like trusting God when the diagnosis is unclear, the budget is tight, or the path forward feels uncertain.
Bravery is continuing the mission when discouragement whispers that you are not enough. It is leading with integrity when compromise would be easier. It is loving boldly in a world that has grown guarded. Notice that God did not say, “Be brave because you are capable.” God said, “Be brave because I am with you.” The strength Joshua needed was not self-generated—it was God-sustained. And the same promise stands for you.
You may feel alarmed. You may feel stretched. You may even feel afraid. But you are not alone. The Lord your God is with you wherever you go—into boardrooms, hospital rooms, classrooms, courtrooms, and quiet prayer rooms. Bravery is not about having no fear. It is about refusing to let fear have you.
Reflection Questions
1. Where is God calling me to be brave instead of comfortable right now?
2. What fear has been influencing my decisions more than my faith?
3. How would I act differently today if I fully trusted that God is with me wherever I go?
Prayer
Lord God,
You have commanded me to be brave and strong. When fear rises, anchor me in Your presence. When I feel discouraged, remind me that You walk beside me. Give me courage to lead, to love, to serve, and to stand firm in faith. Let my bravery reflect my trust in You. In every step I take today, help me remember that I do not walk alone. Amen. Amen and Amen.
Takeaway
Be brave—not because you feel fearless, but because you know God is with you wherever you go. The word of the day is “Brave”.
